Dr. Chathuranga is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Allied Health Sciences, and Coordinator of the Sports and Exercise Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo Sri Lanka.
He obtained MBBS in 2007 from Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo, the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) accredited by Staff and Education Development Association (SEDA) UK in 2011 and Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine from Post Graduate Institute of Medicine in 2015. He obtained his PhD in 2018 in the area of Sports Medicine and Clinical Exercise Physiology from School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. He has clinical training in exercise testing, prescription, strength and conditioning at QUT Health Clinics, Australia and University of Durham UK for sports personnel, patients and elderly.
He acts as a visiting academic fellow to Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Australia, Expert committee member to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Guideline Development Committee member to the World Health Organization (WHO) on Physical Activity, Sri Lankan country representative for Global Observatory for Physical Activity, current editor of the Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Association and Sri Lankan Journal of Sports and Exercise Medicine (SLJSEM). He is the convener of the expert committee on Non Communicable Diseases and the Chairperson of the NIROGI Lanka Project at Sri Lanka Medical Association. He was the Chairperson of the Asian Universities Alliance Youth Forum 2019.
His research interests are Sports medicine, podiatry, exercise and Non-communicable diseases.
