In 1997, she obtained a B.A. (Hons.) degree with First Class honors and the Prof. D. J. Wijerathne Foundation gold medal from the University of Kelaniya. She completed her PhD in the field of Sociolinguistics from the Center for Indigenous Knowledge &amp; Community Studies at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. She acquired a Higher Diploma in Hindi Language &amp; Literature from Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra, India, and earned the Sangeet Visharad Upadhi from Bhatkhande University in India. In 2020, she received the national-level award &#8216;Vanithabhimana-2020&#8217; for her contributions to the field of education.
