Undergraduate

  • Actively involved in the various teaching activities of the integrated problem based curriculum of the Medical Faculty
  • The integrated curriculum has four Streams; Clinical Stream, Applied Sciences Stream, Behavioral Stream, Community Stream
  • Bedside clinical teaching of small groups: Average 12 hours of student contact per week
  • Preparing and conducting lectures, interactive learning sessions
  • Facilitating small group teaching activities; Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, Small Group Discussions (SGDs)
  • Preparation learning / teaching material, triggers for problem based sessions
  • Preparation of Fixed Learning Modules
  • Experience in teaching medical students on ethical principles, breaking bad news, communication skills
  • Training of medical students on a variety of clinical skills: procedures, resuscitation etc
  • Development of interactive multimedia virtual learning modules
  • Organizing and conducting written, clinical, oral and practical (OSCE and OSPE) examinations
  • Setting of examination questions for undergraduate medical examinations in the Faculty of Medicine, the all-university common ranking examination for appointment of intern medical officers, and the qualifying examination for overseas qualified doctors

Postgraduate

  • Trainer for the MD Medicine Training program. Responsible for clinical training and supervision of Registrars, Senior Registrars in General Internal Medicine primarily, with contributions to training of Hematology, Nephrology, Anesthesiology trainees, and candidates following Diploma in Family Medicine course. Average of 3-4 registrars and 2-3 senior registrars (post MD) at a time
  • Coordinator, Research programme for MD Medicine trainees, National Hospital, Colombo 2008-2009
  • Educational and Clinical Supervisor for foundation and core-medical training, UK
  • Examiner at the MRCP(UK) PACES examination
