Dr. W.D. Yasaswi N. Walpita

Dr. Yasaswi Walpita graduated from Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2005 with Second class honors and Distinction in Psychological Medicine. She obtained the Master’s degree in Community Medicine, from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo in 2010 with Dr. C.H. Piyaratne Gold medal for the best performance. She obtained the Doctoral degree in Community Medicine, from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Colombo in 2016 with the prizes of recognition from College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka for the best performance in MD part 1 and part 11 examinations. She has served in the Ministry of Health from year 2007 to 2017 in various capacities from a Medical Officer, AMOH, Registrar, Senior Registrar and an Acting Consultant Community Physician. During this period, she has served in several government institutions of public health including Medical Officer of Health Office- Kolonnawa, Epidemiology Unit, Nutrition Division-Medical Research Institute and Environmental and Occupational Health Directorate at Ministry of Health. She was involved in number of National level research projects while serving in the above institutions.

Dr. Walpita Joined the Department of Community Medicine in 2017 as a Senior Lecturer in Community Medicine. She is a SEDA accredited teacher in Higher Education. She is involved in the teaching activities, conducting and supervision of research projects and coordination of teaching programmes in Community Medicine and related disciplines. She has published several research communications and presented research findings in National and International forums. She is also a life member of College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka. She had her post-doctoral training as a Honorary Research Fellow at Division of population Medicine at Cardiff University, Wales, UK and also worked as the Module lead for Global Health  at Cardiff University Masters in Public Health programme.
