Dr. Asela Anthony graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 1996.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps as a pre-intern and served in the Medical Facility at the 2nd Division Army Camp, Anuradhapura during the separatist war from 1996 to 1997.

He started his carrier in the Ministry of Health, as an Intern at Ragama Teaching Hospital and served as a Senior House Officer in the Out-Patient Departments, Orthopaedic Units and Accident Service and Health Education Bureau.

He was interest in Family Medicine and General Practice since he passed out as a doctor. While working for the Ministry of Health, he practices General Practitioner during off hours. He embarked on an academic carrier in Family Medicine and General Practice by successfully completing the DFM, MD (Fam.Med), MRCGP (INT) and MCGP. He was Board Certified as a Specialist in Family Medicine in 2017.

His interest in Occupational Health prompted him to seek knowledge and successfully complete diplomas in Aviation and Occupational Health and safety.

He joined the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Department of Family Medicine as a Senior Lecturer in 2020.

He is a Postgraduate Lecturer for the DFM course at the PGIM. At the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka MCGP postgraduate membership diploma course, he is a Lecturer, a Mentor, and an Examiner and was the Chief Examiner in 2019. He is also a Postgraduate Examiner for MRCGP (INT) examination. He is a member of the Board of Study in Family Medicine at the PGIM.

He is a member of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka (CGPSL) and Royal College of General Practitioners UK. At the CGPSL, he has held many posts including the post of Honorary Secretary of the College.

He has presented papers on male sexual dysfunction at conferences held by SLMA, WONCA SAR, SASSM and NHRS.
