Dr V. P. Hewageegana

Dr. Hewageegana graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya in 2019 with a Second Class Upper division. She was awarded Distinctions in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Community Medicine and Paediatrics and the Marcus Fonseka Prize for Community Medicine. She completed her internship in Surgery and NHSL Colombo and Paediatrics at Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Colombo in 2020. She was awarded the World Health Award and Oral Session Award at the International Student Congress of (Bio) Medical Sciences (ISCOMS), Groningen, The Netherlands 2016 for the research “Burden of Tobacco Smoking and Awareness of its Health Effects” in which she was the Principal Investigator during her undergraduate years at University of Peradeniya.

She was appointed as a Probationary Lecturer at the Department of Family Medicine in October 2020.
