Dr. AHA Fazeenah started her medical carrier with a Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery (BUMS) in 1994, offered by the IIM, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Then she had been honored with Common Wealth Scholarship awarded by the ICCR and successfully completed her Postgraduate study in ‘Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Moalejat’ at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS), India, Bangalore.
During Dr. Fazeenah’s tenure in the Institute, she was appointed to various academic and administrative positions at the University of Colombo. She has worked at different levels such as temporary demonstrator, visiting lecturer, assignment basis Unani lecturer, probationary lecturer, lecturer, and senior lecturer Gr. I as academic positions. Therefore, teaching & practical training have been given to undergraduates and postgraduate students by her.
During her tenure, she has served as Head of the Allied Science (Unani) Division, Head/ Academic Programme of Allied Sciences/ Unani (Honorary post), Head / Study Unit of Ilmul Jarahat (Unani Surgery), student counselor, Coordinator for PG Diploma in Unani, Domain Coordinator of the IQA Cell of IIM, Clinical Coordinator for Level IV and V BUMS, Assistant to the Academic Coordinator, member of Research Management Committee and Research, technical evaluation committee and Higher Degree Committee (RHDC) as administrative position in Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
Further, she has made many contributions to developing the academic activities in IIM as she has worked as a course coordinator and developed the Certificate in Indigenous Medicine in Ilaaj Jasadee (Physical Therapy) for medical graduates. She has organized and conducted many workshops, awareness programs, and medical camps. She has participated as a resource person in an international webinar.
She is a life member of the Population Association of Sri Lanka and National Science Foundation (NSF), Sri Lanka, a member of the Unani Sectional Committee, a Member and the secretary of the study board of PGIIM/Unani, member of the specialty board in Moalejat/PGIIM and Ilmul Advia, chairperson of selection examination for MD Moalejat, member of BUMS Curriculum Development and Evaluation Committee UG and PG, MD Syllabus Committee, Career and Personal Development Committee, Library Committee, subcommittee of formulation of essential drug committee, committee of preparation guidelines for intern doctors.
She has published more than 75 research papers in peer-reviewed, indexed journals, National and International conferences and she has published 5 books and four more books are in progress. Supervisor of Under Graduate Student Research Projects, Reviewer of National and International Journals.
Dr. Fazeenah is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Medical and Health Research, Assistant Editor of the Journal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, an Advisory board member of the World Journal of Pharmacological Research and Technology; Editorial board member of the World Journal of Pharmacological Research and Technology, World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research; also she was a Consultant Editor of International Journal of Unani and Integrative Medicine and Editorial board member of Sri Lanka Journal of Indigenous.
Dr. Fazeenah has spent 165 years of her life in the ‘Institute’ and her commitment and dedication to the teaching and development of the Unani Medicine is highly commendable.
