Background: Atypical an psycho cs cause weight gain, metabolic syndrome and menstrual abnormali es. Polycys c ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condi on which is associated with weight gain.
Aims: Aims were to compare the prevalence of PCOS and polycys c ovary morphology in females treated with atypical an psycho cs with normal controls.
Method: Cases consisted of reproduc ve age females; age between 18-45 years with schizophrenia treated with atypical an psycho cs for≥ 6 moths and had gained≥ 10% body weight. Control group consisted of age and BMI matched females. Menstrual history, physical examina on anthropometric measures, ultrasound abdomen and hormone analysis were done.
Results: There were 156 females in the an psycho c treated group and 129 controls. Mean age cases= 33.6 years (SD 8.63) and controls= 32.9 years (SD 5.6). Mean BMI cases= 25.41 (SD 4.81) and controls= 25
