He was placed first in order of merit among over 800 medical graduates from 6 medical faculties. He joined the Department of Surgery in 2011 as Lecturer in Surgery and completed his MD in the University of Colombo and FRCS(Edin) in 2019. In 2012, he was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to read for a PhD in breast cancer at the University of Auckland, New Zealand which he successfully completed in 2016. Having completed postgraduate training overseas he was board certified as a specialist in Surgery and was promoted to Senior Lecturer. Since 2015, he has been an honorary Consultant Surgeon in the University Surgical Unit, National Hospital, Colombo.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Seneviratne has over 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and numerous abstracts. He has received many awards for research including the Presidential Award for Scientific Publication and TOYP top ten young Sri Lankan award (Medical Research) in 2017.
