  • Was the secretary of The Sri Lanka Prescriber: This is a premiere drug information bulletin which is a member of the International Society of Drug Bulletins(ISDB) and provides independent information to medical practitioners. This is a quarterly journal published by the Department of Pharmacology and the State Pharmaceuticals corporation with a circulation of 5500 and all doctors employed by the Ministry of Health and Universities are provided copies free of charge. A Readership survey of SriL Lanka Prescriber was carried out in 2007 and due to request  by majority of readers, the n umber of pages of the journal was increased in 2008 .

Contribution to National Development

  • Project to improve independent and safe medicines use by the Visually/Hearing Disabled patients

Made a presentation on “Difficulties faced by the visually and hearing disabled patients in accessing the healthcare system and in using medicines” at the Health Development Committee and Hospital Directors’ Meeting on 06th April 2017. 

 

 

Following this presentation at the request of the Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne I submitted a proposal to implement a national level programme to improve access to healthcare services by visually / hearing disabled patients and to enable them to use medicines safely and effectively. 

 

Permission was granted by the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition to design a programme to conduct workshops for Health and Allied Health Professionals and other categories of Health Staff at hospitals island to facilitate the process,  and to design other activities.

 

The first workshop was conducted at Colombo South Teaching Hospital in 2018 and workshops were conducted in 2019 for the major staff and minor staff of National Hospital Sri Lanka in 2019.

 

 

  • Health System Development Project(HSDP) :

 

  • Was a resource person for this project and developed a DVD on insulin therapy and a manual on insulin therapy along with Professor Kusum de Abrew.

Sri Lanka Medical Association:

  • One of the 3 resource persons for NIROGI LANKA project for module on pharmacological management of diabetic patient. This project is funded and mediated by World Diabetic Federation to improve management of the diabetes patients in Sri Lanka  by special training projects for selected nurses, doctors in the government sector and private sector.
  • Was a resource person ( Delivered lectures on insulin and oral antidiabetic medicines and conducted interactive sessions on insulin and oral antidiabetic medicines for 2 batches of trainee diabetic nurse educators of the NIROGI LANKA project. 
  • SLMA ( Patient Information Literature leaflets)PILL committee; Convener for the pharmacology and toxicological component in this project. Has produced and submitted information leaflets on 
  • generic vs trade name of a drug
  • using antibiotics rationally
  • asthma inhalers
  • medicine use by elderly
  • lithium therapy.

Sri Lanka College of Physicians

  • Participated in the Heath System Development project(HSDP) on behalf of the Ceylon College of Physicians.
  • The insulin training module was selected to be presented as a sample training module of the project at the HSDP launching attended by the Health Minister and high Officials of the Ministry of Health and self was invited to do the presentation on behalf of the College.
  • Was the single resource person for the training module on insulin at the Southern Province training of trainers session held by the College in August 2009.
