Professor Shalini Sri Ranganathan

Professor Shalini Sri Ranganathan is a Professor in Pharmacology and Specialist in Paediatrics. She obtained her MBBS degree from Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna and MD (Paediatrics) and Diploma in Child health from University of Colombo. She was awarded commonwealth scholarship for further training in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology in the UK. She obtained her PhD for her thesis titled “Pharmacovigilance and Toxicovigilance in Paediatrics” from the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM), Cardiff, UK in 2004. She also obtained the MRCP (London) and Diploma in Medical Toxicology (UWCM, Cardiff, UK) during her training period in UK.

Her awards include ten prestigious medals and awards during her undergraduate training and Priyani Soysa Gold Medal for the best performance in MD Paediatrics and the President’s Award for Scientific Publication in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. Her research interests are mainly in the area of medicines for children, safely of medicines and vaccines, pharmacovigilance, essential medicines, drug utilization, antibacterial consumption, pragmatic clinical trials in children and paracetamol overdose.

At present, she serves in many national and international organizations: She is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Advisory Panel on Drug Evaluation since 2009 and member of the Paediatric Subcommittee of International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology since 2010. She is a member of the editorial board of the Ceylon Medical Journal since 2005 and currently serves a section editor. She also serves in the editorial boards of Postgraduate Institute of Medicine Journal, Ceylon Journal of Medical Sciences and Sri Lanka Journal of Surgery. She has authored about 45 publications and 80 scientific communications.
