Dr. Vipula Bataduwaarachchi received his secondary education at the Royal College, Colombo and entered the Faculty of Medicine, university of Colombo. He passed out with excellent academic achievements including several distinctions and gold medals. He completed his internship at the National Hospital of Colombo in General Medicine and Surgery and joined the Department of Pharmacology as a junior lecturer. Currently, he is specializing in Respiratory Medicine and has completed MRCP (UK) and qualifications in Medical Education.

He has published many articles in local and international peer reviewed journals including BMJ Heart and has won several awards including E. M WIjerama price from the Ceylon College of Physicians. He contributed immensely to the first island wide audit on Acute Coronary syndrome (ACSSLAP).

He is a member of many local and international academic bodies including Sri Lanka Medical Association, Ceylon College of Physicians, Sri Lanka Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists and Asia-Pacific, American, European Respiratory Societies.

His main research and academic interests are on Medical education, Respiratory medicine / Pharmacology and substance-related disorders.
