Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is a Halley-type periodic comet that was first discovered by Jean-Louis Pons on July 12, 1812 and then independently rediscovered by William Robert Brooks in 1883. It has an orbital period of about 71.3 years. This comet is almost a naked eye comet with a magnitude of the order of 4 and can be an easy target for a binocular or a telescope.  Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks is expected to reach its maximum brightness in the month of April  (potentially visible to the naked eye). On 21st April and 2024 the comet will pass the Earth at a distance of 240 million kilometers. However, since the comet’s brightness can be unpredictable, there is no guarantee it will be visible, and viewers may need to use binoculars or telescopes to see it. The following sky charts show the comet’s position in the sky.
