Dr. Duminda Subasinghe graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2008, with Second Class (Upper Division) Honours. He was also awarded distinction and Gold Medal in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

He entered the postgraduate surgical training program in 2012 and obtained the MD (Surgery) in 2015 and MRCS (Eng) in 2016. He was trained in Gastrointestinal and HPB Surgery in University Surgical Unit, The National Hospital of Sri Lanka and Colombo South Teaching Hospital. He joined the Department of Surgery, University of Colombo in 2016 as a lecturer. During his overseas post-MD training in GI/HPB Surgery, he worked as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery at Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool, NHS, UK, Specialty Registrar in HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Queens Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham NHS, UK and as a Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery at Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust UK from 2018- 2020.

 

He has received many awards for research including the Presidential Award for Scientific Publication in 2014, National research council Merit research awards in 2011 and 2017, PR Anthony’s Research awards in 2017, 2018 from College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, and HKT Fernando award in 2016 from Sri Lanka Medical Association. His research interests include GI/Hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery, Gastrointestinal Cancer, Colorectal Liver Metastasis and Acute Pancreatitis. He is currently working as Consultant GI/Hepatopancreatobiliary(HPB) Surgeon in University Surgical Unit, The National Hospital of Sri Lanka,Colombo
