Dr. Shermal Wijewardene

Shermal Wijewardene holds an MPhil in English Studies from the University of Oxford, UK, and a PhD in Gender Studies from Monash University, Australia. She teaches Shakespeare Studies, Chaucer, Milton and Autobiographical Writing, incorporating queer, feminist, and postcolonial critical approaches.  Her research is multidisciplinary, engaging with the intersections of technology,  literature, social movements, human rights, and queer representation in law, literature and the media. Together with Vijay Nagaraj, she has co-authored Human Rights Practice: Towards a Thick Description (2014). She has also co-authored 3D Things: Devices, Technologies, and Women’s Organising in Sri Lanka (2015) with Kumudini Samuel.
