|Senior Professor (Mrs.) E.R.H.S.S. Ediriweera was educated in Visakha Vidyalaya, Bambalapitiya. She entered the Government Ayurveda College in 1976 and obtained Diploma in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (D.A.M.S) with an honours pass from University of Colombo in 1981 and completed internship in 1982. She completed her postgraduate studies; Doctor of Medicine (Ayu) in Kayachikithsa with specialization in Panchakarma at Banaras Hindu University, India in 1993. She had undergone a special training in Panchakarma in Kerala, arranged by Banaras Hindu University while studying for M.D. (Ayu). She obtained her Ph.D. from University of Peradeniya. Professor Sujatha Ediriweera was accredited as a teacher in Higher Education by Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA), United Kingdom in 2000. She also holds a Diploma in Yoga from Banaras Hindu University.
Senior Professor Ediriweera initially joined the Department of Ayurveda as a medical officer in 1984 and then the University of Colombo as an Assistant lecturer in January 1990. She was appointed as a Professor in Ayurveda in 2009 and she is the first Sri Lankan lady professor in the field of Ayurveda.
She has served as the Chairperson of Board of study (Ayurveda) for 2012/2015 MD (Ayu) programme, Head of the Department of Nidana Chikithsa, Course Coordinator of Postgraduate Diploma in Ayurveda 2005/2006, Secretary of the Higher Degree Committee from 1998 to 2007 and various other academic and administrative positions at the Institute of Indigenous Medicine. Currently she is the Chairperson of Ethics Review Committee. She also served as an Assistant Consultant in Panchakarma and Kayachikithsa since 1993 and Consultant physician in Panchakarma and Kayachikithsa since 2004 at Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella. Professor Ediriweera has introduced many Panchakarma methods and techniques, including Mud Therapy, which were not practiced at Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella. She takes a special interest in providing hands on training in Panchakarma to University students. She is a visiting lecturer in Panchakarma at the Department of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna. She was also a visiting lecturer in Kayachikithsa and Roga Vignana at Gampaha Wickramarchchi Ayurveda Institute, University of Kelaniya.
Senior Professor Sujatha Ediriweera teaches and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students (Postgraduate Diploma in Ayurveda, M. Phil. in Ayurveda and Doctor of Medicine in Ayurveda).
She has published over 250 abstracts and research papers in local and International seminars and journals
