BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Sandali N.L. Narathota graduated from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, with a Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) Honours Degree, obtaining a Second-Class Upper Division with a GPA of 3.67. Following the successful completion of her internship training as an Intern Medical Officer, she was appointed as a Temporary Demonstrator in the Unit of Shalya Shalakya (Surgery, ENT, and Ophthalmology), Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, serving from 2021-2022. She was subsequently reappointed as a Temporary Demonstrator in the Department of Ayurveda Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Paediatrics, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, for the period 2025–2026. In June 2026, she was appointed as a Probationary Lecturer in the Department of Ayurveda Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics and Community Medicine.

Dr. Narathota further advanced her academic career through postgraduate studies, obtaining a Master of Arts in Buddhist Ayurvedic Counselling from the University of Kelaniya in 2022, a Master of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Peradeniya in 2024, and a Master of Science in Kāyacikitsā from Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine in 2025. In addition, she has completed postgraduate and professional qualifications in Health Development, Psychology, Information Technology, Human Resource Management, Acupuncture, Statistics, Research Methodology and Scientific Writing, which have strengthened her multidisciplinary academic and research expertise.

Her academic interests encompass Clinical Medicine, Psychology, Mental Wellbeing, Nutrition, Yoga and Yoga Therapy, Integrative Medicine, Research Methodology, and Indigenous Health Sciences. She has served as a Visiting Lecturer at Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine and the Open International University for Complementary Medicine, delivering lectures and clinical training in Ayurveda, Yoga, Acupuncture, and Research Methodology. She has also contributed extensively to undergraduate and postgraduate education through teaching, student supervision, mentoring, curriculum-related activities, and academic guidance.

Dr. Narathota is an active researcher with multiple publications in national and international peer-reviewed indexed journals and has presented her research findings at both local and international scientific conferences. Her research primarily focuses on Ayurveda, Integrative Medicine, Mental Health, Acupuncture, Nutrition and Yoga Therapy. In addition to her academic and clinical contributions, she serves as a health writer and media resource person, contributing to newspaper articles, online publications, television programmes, and radio discussions aimed at promoting public health awareness and traditional medicine.
