Dr. Sasika Mahinath Palathiratne is a proud alumnus of Nalanda College, Colombo 10 & Mahanama College, Colombo 03, and he hails from a Traditional Medicinal Ancestral Lineage. He had completed the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery Degree with First Class Honours from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM), University of Colombo (UoC) in 2022, as the Top of the Batch with the Best Overall GPA of 3.88 out of 4 in the 2012/2013 Batch, and being the Island First in the Merit Order List of Ayurveda Doctors – Final (Main) Examination relevant to Batch of 2012/2013 Intake, issued by the MIS Division, University Grants Commission (UGC), Sri Lanka in 2023. He was the First in the history of the former Institute of Indigenous Medicine to be nominated for All Four Open Awards of the University of Colombo, namely: the Student of the Year Award, the Canekeratne Prize for General Merit, the D.P.P. Samarasekara Peace Prize, and the Prof. Tilak Hettiarachchy Award for Academic Excellence in 2020. He was a Gold Medalist and the Leading Member of the First and Second National Championship Teams at the International Standard Inter-collegiate Ayurveda Undergraduate Quiz Competition: Jyotishmati 3 and 4 Sri Lanka, based on All Subjects throughout the BAMS Curriculum as per CCIM (NCISM), Organized by Shree Dhootapapeshwar Limited, Mumbai, India in 2018 and 2019 respectively. As a B.A.M.S. undergraduate student, he was commended and felicitated at the Board of Management of the former Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM) by the former Commissioner of Ayurveda and former Director of the Institute of Indigenous Medicine for the National Championship at the International Standard Inter-collegiate Ayurveda Undergraduate Quiz Competition: Jyotishmati 3 Sri Lanka, in 2018. Dr. S.M. Palathiratne completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Nutraceuticals Product Development with a Distinction Pass from the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine (FIM), University of Colombo, in 2025. He had ably served as an Intern Medical Officer at Ayurveda National Hospital – Borella, Bandaranayake Memmorial Ayurvedic Research Institute & Hospital – Nawinna, and District Ayurveda Hospital – Lunawa in 2021. Furthermore, he served as a Temporary Demonstrator at the Study Unit of Swasthavritta, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo in 2022. He has published several Full-paper Research Articles in International Journals and has also presented numerous Abstract Research Papers at International Conferences and symposia, on a multitude of themes. Currently, Dr. S.M. Palathiratne is serving as a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Department of Basic Principles, Ayurveda Anatomy and Physiology of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo.
