Mr. M.A. Milton’s career in academic library sector commenced in 1996 and he has worked for twenty two years in the university library system to date. Currently he serves as a Senior Assistant Librarian (Grade I) at the Main Library, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Mr. Milton received his my Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in Sinhala from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1986 and obtained Master of Social Sciences (MSSC) Degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Kelaniya. He also earned Post Graduate Diploma on Library and Information Science from the University of Kelaniya in December 1994 and Postgraduate Diploma in Writership and Communication from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1991.
He serves as a visiting lecturer in Library and information sciences for the Postgraduate Degree, Diploma and Certificate Courses and supervised postgraduate dissertations at the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS), University of Colombo from 2002 to 2015.
Mr. Milton was the Course Coordinator of the Diploma in Library and Information Management (DILIM) and Diploma in Teacher Librarianship (DTL) at the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS) of the University of Colombo and a Course Coordinator of the Research Methodology Course conducted by the NCAS. Mr. Milton covers not only the postgraduate teaching but also undergraduate teaching as a Visiting Lecture for the Undergraduate Student in the Buddasharawaka Bikku University, Anuradhapura in 2009 / 2010 and Mass Communication for the General Degree Programme Undergraduate Student of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in 2004 / 2005.
He has extended his service a resource person for the Teacher Librarian Training Programme conducted by the NILIS and Ministry of Education (2002 -2010), School Librarian Training Programmes (1990-2009), Pirevena Librarian Training Programmes (1990-2009) and Public Librarian and Library Assistant / Attendant Training Programmes (1990-1996). He also served as a Committee Member of the Tsunami Library Development Project in the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka for the period of 2006 to 2007.
Beside the official duties as a Senior Assistant Librarian, Mr. Milton has also served as Secretary of the Teachers Association University of Rajarata (RUTA) and Executive Committee member of the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) for the period of 1997 to 2004 and Secretary of the University Librarians Association (ULA) for the period of 2000-2001.
