Mrs. Sajeewanie D. Somaratna, currently serving as the Deputy Librarian of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 2005, she joined the University of Colombo as an Assistant Librarian, accumulating 20 years of experience in the university library sector to date.
She obtained her B.Sc. Special degree in Zoology from the University of Colombo in 2001. Following this, she completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Master of Library & Information Science, both from the University of Colombo. Additionally, she earned a Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education in 2011 and is accredited as a Teacher in Higher Education by SEDA, UK. Mrs. Somaratna also serves as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, and the National Institute of Library and Information Science.
She has contributed to approximately 30 publications in the LIS field, mainly focusing on Library user studies, service quality management and LIS education. Mrs. Somaratna was recognised as a Senate awardee for research excellence at the University of Colombo in 2021 and 2022. Beyond her research endeavours, she extends her capacity as a reviewer in national and International refereed journals, serves as an editor in several professional organisations, and is a member of National task forces and professional bodies.
