Sakeena Alikhan, currently serves as an Assistant Librarian at the Main Library, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Ms. Alikhan began her studies at the University of Colombo in 2002 as an undergraduate and later returned as an academic staff member after earning a First Class Honours in Geography. For her first degree, she received the “Niel Bandaranyake Memorial Prize.” Ms. Alikhan earned her Masters degree in environmental science from the Department of Zoology, University of Colombo in 2014. She began working at the Department of Geography, University of Colombo in 2006 as an Assistant Lecturer and continued to serve as a visiting lecturer till 2009. From 2010 until 2013, she worked as a Computer Instructor at the Computer Teaching Unit, University of Colombo. She worked as a GIS consultant at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies from 2013 until 2016.
In April 2017, she joined University of Colombo as an Assistant Librarian. Her research interests are in the areas of Information Literacy, Digital Literacy, Ageing, and Digital Mapping. She has obtained a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, at National Institute of Library & Information Sciences (NILIS).
