Krishmal Fernando is a purpose-driven academic, sports leader, and community contributor with a strong commitment to empowering others and driving positive change. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in International Business from the University of Colombo with First Class Honours in 2019 and later completed his Master of Business Administration in International Business, where he was awarded the Gold Medal for the best thesis in Marketing.
He has also completed the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) and earned the SEDA – Learning, Teaching and Assessing recognition from the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA), United Kingdom.
Krishmal’s leadership journey began during his school days and during his university years, he excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities. As captain of the University of Colombo rugby team in 2019, he led the team to victory at the Sri Lanka University Games after a decade, while also securing the National ‘C’ Division Rugby Championship. His sporting achievements were recognised with the University of Colombo Colours (2016–2019) and the Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA) Colours (2018–2019). In the same year, as President of the Amalgamated Club (Sports Council), he successfully coordinated 22 sports teams at the 13th Sri Lanka University Games. In addition, he actively promoted youth engagement and community service through his role as Sergeant-at-Arms of the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Management and Finance.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Krishmal was named Student of the Year 2019 and became the inaugural recipient of the Prof. J.A.S.K. Jayakody Memorial Gold Medal for the Most Outstanding Student of the Faculty of Management and Finance.
Further enhancing his global exposure, he was awarded the Australia Awards Fellowship (AAF) in 2024, held at Monash University, which broadened his perspectives on leadership, policy, and inclusive development.
