Professor Kumudinei Dissanayake graduated from the University of Colombo in October 1991 obtaining the Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree (Honors). She joined the academic career in 1991 as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer, and joined as a permanent Lecturer (Probationary) in 1992, followed by the positions Senior Lecture – Grade II (1997), Senior Lecturer – Grade I (2004) and Professor (2017). She has earned her MBA from the University of Colombo, and a second MBA and the Doctoral degree from the Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan.

She served as a Head of Department at the Faculty of Management and Finance from 2007 to 2011. She was the first Head of Department of the Department of Management and Organization Studies (MOS) of the Faculty.

She has served in the positions of an Editor, the Managing Editor, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Colombo Business Journal published by the Faculty. Currently she is serving as a member of the Editorial Board of University of Colombo Review (UCR) and the Colombo Journal of Multi-disciplinary Research (CJMR).

She has authored three books and several book chapters, and published her research results in local and international journals. She has presented her research work at local research conferences as well as international research conferences held in India, Japan, Singapore, and the united Kingdom. She was a Japan Foundation Fellow (2012 and 2017), a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan (2011), a Visiting Scholar at the Japan Institute for Labor Policy and Training (2014) and an Australian Award Fellow (2014).
