Dr. Anusha Fernando is a Lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
She graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo with a Second Class Honours -Upper Division in 2010. She completed the postgraduate Diploma in Medical Microbiology in 2017 and obtained her MD in Medical Virology in 2021 from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. She was also awarded the Diplomateship in the Royal College of Pathologists, United Kingdom in 2023.
She has worked at premier institutes and hospitals in Sri Lanka catering patients with virological diseases for several years. She has also worked as a Honorary registrar in infection at the Royal London Hospital, one of the largest trusts in the United Kingdom during her overseas training form 2022-2023.

Dr. Fernando’s interest include clinical, diagnostic and research in Medical Virology with special emphasis on hepatitis causing viruses, congenital infections, infections in immunocompromised patients and virological sequencing.

She has authored several publications related to Virology and has been awarded the second place among the oral presentations for the abstract ‘Sero prevalence and Genotype distribution of Hepatitis C infection among patients with Haemophilia A and B in four selected tertiary care hospitals in 2019’, at the Annual Academic Sessions of Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists,-2019. An abstract she co-authored ‘Prevalence and genotype distribution of Human Papiilomavirus in attendees at Central Sexual Transmitted Disease Clinic, Sri Lanka’ also won the best oral presentation at the annual research symposium of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka, 2022.
