Ms. Chamali has graduated by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo with a Second class (Upper) division in the Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (Honours) degree in 2013. She has joined the faculty as a Lecturer (Probationary) in year 2016. Currently, she is reading for her PhD in the field of paediatric neuro-rehabilitation.

Currently, she works as a Lecturer in Physiotherapy attached to the Department of Allied Health Science, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo- Sri Lanka. At the same time, she is a practicing Physiotherapist with the license from Sri Lanka Medical Council. Apart from teaching activities for BSc Physiotherapy undergraduates, she engaged in administrative work of the department as the convener of Research Stream, convener of the Applied Physiotherapy Stream, coordinator of the overseas electives programme of Department of Allied Health Sciences and committee member of the faculty library committee. She is actively participating in the service provision and clinical education in the “Child Development clinic”, University Professorial unit, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children since 2013 where mostly involve in the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome and global developmental delay. She had similar experience for more than two years when practicing at “Preethipura”, Home for disabled children, Wattala, Sri Lanka and School for Blind, Rathmalana, Sri Lanka as a physiotherapist and a clinical educator. At the same time, she is very enthusiastic in supervising undergraduate research projects and extra-curricular activities of undergraduates.

Ms. Chamali’s long term research interests involve the enhancement of rehabilitation for paediatric neurological disorders and to enhance the outcome by using various innovative measures. Paediatric neurological disorders constitute a major cause of disability in childhood. These disorders mostly require a rehabilitation team approach for optimum care. The important role of physiotherapy in the overall management of paediatric neurological disorders has been proved and would like to utilize her research findings, knowledge, experience and skills to reduce the high risk disability following paediatrc neurological disorders.  At the same time, her other research interests are cardiac rehabilitation, Helath and fitness in children and biomechanics of adults and children.
