Dr. Indunil Piyadigama is a distinguished medical professional with a broad range of qualifications and academic achievements. He holds an MBBS (Colombo), MD (Colombo), and MRCOG (UK), along with a Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopy from France. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Dr. Piyadigama’s academic journey began with exceptional results at the GCE Ordinary Level in 2001, where he earned 7 A-grade passes. His academic prowess continued to shine through at the GCE Advanced Level in 2004, where he achieved Grade A passes in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, securing an all-island rank of 3 and a Colombo District rank of 2. His Z-score of 3.3058 was among the highest in the country, and he was recognized with the prestigious Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Merit Award.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Piyadigama has received numerous awards, including the Dr. F.E. Wijesooriya Memorial Prize for Best Performance at the GCE Advanced Level Examination in Biological Science and the M.M. Kulasekaram Prize for Physics. He was also the best performer in the senior division of the Australian National Chemistry Quiz in 2003 and was nominated for the Silver Jubilee Graduateship Scholarship by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.
At the undergraduate level, Dr. Piyadigama continued to excel, obtaining a second-class upper division honours in his MBBS from the University of Colombo. He achieved first-class honours in the Introductory Basic Sciences Stream and maintained second-class honours in other streams, including Applied Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, and Community Sciences. His clinical sciences performance earned him upper division honours, and he secured an island merit position of 23 in the final MBBS examination.
