    1. Muhudu maha viharaya development project

Muhudu Maha Viharaya is one of the oldest temples of Eastern province. There are many ruins of historical value in this area. However, with changes in religious compositions in the region and not understanding the value of the ruins the site was abandoned for years and was invaded by non-Buddhist religious groups. I was part of the team including Prof. Kapila Gunawardena, in the development of this temple back to the former glory

Institutional development

    1. Development and maintenance of the premises of Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo

As a committee member of the Faculty of Medicine, Students Union I took the initiative in preparing a project proposal for development and maintenance of the Faculty of Medicine premises in 2006. The development done at that stage is still being used by the current students.

    1. New Obstetrics and Gynaecology theatre complex of Teaching Hospital Kandy

The obstetrics and gynaecology theatre complex at the Teaching Hospital Kandy had only 2 theatre beds and 2 recovery beds. This was grossly inadequate. Therefore, it was decided to expand the theatre complex. The new theatre complex was designed according to my concept utilizing the floor of the current theatre complex to minimize the need for alterations thus cutting down the cost and arranging the space so that the staff can function with minimum effort. This new theatre complex consists of 4 theatre tables, 6 recovery beds and 2 anaesthetic preparation beds.

    1. Response system at the strikes

A contingency plan was developed for Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward management during the periods of Nurses trade union actions. This helped in managing the wards smoothly during the Nurses trade union period in early May 2014. The plan was distributed to other hospitals through The Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists to be implemented in other hospitals all over the country. We carried out an audit during this period with regards to patients’ satisfaction compared to the time without the trade union action, where we had a very favourable response.

    1. Development of an effective patient transfer system for IDP welfare centres

I developed an effective system of patient transfers at internally displaced persons’ welfare centre at Cheddikulam. The proposal was handed over to the Director of the Health Coordination centre. This proposal was used for the patient transfers in IDP camps using the available limited resources.
