Professor Preethika Angunawala joined the Department of Pathology as a junior lecturer in March 1983 and was promoted to professor in 1999. She has trained a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students including the supervision of several post-doctor research students.

She is a council member of the laboratory accreditation committee of the ministry of Science and technology. She received a long service award from University of Colombo in 2012 in recognition of her 25 years of service to the university.
