  • As a part of the medical undergraduate curriculum, studied the subjects of Islamiyaath (including the Holy Quaran and Hidit) and Indo-Pakistan history, 1996 – 2000      

Social Anthropology and Social Medicine

  • Followed a course on Social Anthropology at University of Oxford in 2020

  • Member of the relief medical team of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital that aided the affected people in the 2004 Tsunami in the Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Mullaitivu districts in 2005

  • Member of group ‘Triveni Project’ which promotes arts for deepening human understanding in the form of Sri Lankan, Kathak, Kathakali, and Odissi dance forms, movie screenings, poetry reading and mobile libraries all preceded by building communication with communities from 2018 to date
  • Competent in teaching, conducting lectures, tutorials, field training for medical students as done during tenure as temporary lecturer in Community Medicine at Faculty of Medicine, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka from 2010 to date
  • Completed the curriculum of Speech and Drama and examination of Effective Speaking conducted by Trinity College of Music with distinction/ honours, 1988 – 1992

Music

  • Member of the Somerville Chorus, the choir of St John’s College, University of Oxford, United Kingdom in 2020
  • Performed with Zohra, the All-Girls Afghan orchestra that performed the Sheldonian Theatre University of Oxford in 2020
  • Translated Rabindranath Tagore’s last poem “Thomor Pather Shothor” (The Guileful One) in to a Sinhala lyric melodized by Dr Rohana Weerasinghe. Original Sinhala lyricist of two other songs melodized by Dr Rohana Weerasinghe and Vicarate Anuradha Abeysinghe in 2020
  • Has studied Hindustani classical music under the tutelage of Visharada Dr Nanda Malini having successfully completed vocal examinations at the Bhathkhande Music University, Lucknow, India from 1987 to date.

Cinema

  • Script supervisor for short movie ‘Handful of Leaves’ supported by His Holiness Dalai Lama. This movie entered nine international film festivals. This movie is included in the curricula of cinema, anthropology, engaged Buddhism and sociology at Harvard University, University of San Diego, University of Wisconsin, Liverpool Hope University-UK, Da Vinci Institute, South Africa, University of Phoenix – Arizona, Brandeis University – Boston, Monash University, Fukuoka Women’s University, Kyoto University of Arts and Design, Ottawa University and University of St. Gallen, Switzerland in 2020
  • Currently working on an untitled movie by Triveni Project, themed on forgiveness based on the Yakawewa Village in Kebithigollawa where 76 people died as a result of a suicide bomb blast 15 years ago.

Dance

  • Bharatha Natyam dancer under the tutelage of Kalasuri Padmini Dahanayake for 30 years. Proficient in Bharatha Natyam dance forms, theory and Natya Shasthra history. Has taken part in numerous dance recitals for performance and charity, 1988 to date
  • Propagates Kathak, Kathakali, Odissi dance forms in communities to expand human understanding and as a means of catharsis via the Triveni Project from 2018 to date

Language Skills

  • Winner of the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for best creative writer among SAARC countries presented by Shri Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister of India at the 1st SAARC Cultural Festival in 1992. Represented Sri Lanka at this event.
  • Winner of numerous national, regional and school level awards and prizes for creative writing from 1988 to 1995.
