Dr Umayal Branavan obtained her BSc Special degree (First class) in Allied Health Science from Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute (India) and M.Sc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & amp; Gene technology from University of Colombo. She has completed her PhD titled “Genotyping Sri Lankan women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): towards a novel screening tool” at Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo (2016-2019). During her PhD research, she has screened 16 polymorphisms of PCOS and developed a simple and cost-effective genotyping tool to screen 16 polymorphisms simultaneously. She has obtained National Patent for PCOS genotyping tool.
She has a certificate of teaching in higher education (CTHE, UoC) and is a SEDA (UK) accredited teacher in higher education. She possesses 5 years of academic experience in the fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Reproductive Biology. Her research interests span the fields of
preeclampsia, polycystic ovary syndrome, andrology and embryology.
