Mrs. H.M.C.M.Herath entered into the nursing profession in 1987 and completed her basic nursing diploma at the School of Nursing Kurunegala. She was recruited as a registered nurse by the Ministry of Health in 1991 and appointed to De Soyza Maternity Hospital. Then she was transferred to Teaching Hospital Kurunegala and has been working at several workplaces. While working in these areas she has obtained many experiences regarding the handling of neonates, critically ill patients, mechanically ventilated patients, and patients who are having cardiac problems.
In 1998 she has selected from the competitive examination for training on management and supervision (Grade 1 Nursing Officer -Hospital services) at Post Basic College of Nursing, Ministry of Health. In 2000 she has completed a Diploma in Management and Supervision including Midwifery. And thereafter got the appointment to the Teaching Hospital, Kandy as a Grade 1 Nursing Officer (Hospital Services). She was assigned to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit as a Unit Manager. After seven years of experience, she was promoted as a nursing officer special grade.
She received her BSc Nursing degree in 2008 from Open University Sri Lanka with upper-class honor. Thereafter, she has started lecturing as a visiting academic at OUSL in 2009. Then she obtained a Master in sciences (Food & Nutrition) from the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.
She has many national and international training and experiences. After 33 years of experience in nursing at different levels and diverse workplaces, she joined the academic staff as a Lecturer (Unconfirmed) to the department of Clinical Nursing. of the Faculty of Nursing, the University of Colombo in 2021.
