Dr. Sumudu Nimali Seneviratne graduated with first degree honours from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2004 (MFC 97/98 batch) with distinctions in Paediatrics, Clinical Medicine, and Forensic medicine, and gold medals for Forensic medicine, and Anesthesiology/Intensive care.  She started postgraduate training in Paediatrics in 2007, and joined the Department of Paediatrics as a Lecturer in 2010. She was promoted to a Senior Lecturer post in 2015. She obtained Board certification as a Paediatric Endocrinologist in 2015. Further, I completed a doctoral degree on the “Effects of antenatal exercise in overweight and obese women on maternal and offspring outcomes” at the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland, New Zealand.

She has several publications in high impact journals and received a President’s Award for Scientific Publication for 2016, and New Investigator Award at the International Conference on Children’s’ Bone Health, Austria in 2019. She played a key role in initiating the Postgraduate Research Communication Day (Bus stop talks) of the Research and Higher Degrees Committee in 2019 and 2020.

She has also been involved in community efforts to curb childhood obesity in Sri Lanka, through the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists, being the lead coordinator of the school health component of the Sri Lanka Diabetes and Cardiovascular Initiative (SLDCi), A World Diabetes Foundation funded Multi-partner collaboration 2017-2020, especially through the “Chandi-Bandi “project, which is planned to be implemented in all schools nationwide in 2020.

She is keenly interested in improving the care for children with Paediatric endocrine diseases, with a special interest in children with disorders/differences of sexual development (DSD). Her other research interests include the developmental origins of health and disease (DoHAD), childhood obesity and endocrine complications in paediatric cancer survivors
