Dr. Pamod Amarakoon is a Lecturer in Medical Education/Health Informatics at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), the University of Colombo with research interests in public health informatics, mHealth, health information systems. He is a medical doctor by profession and obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenapura. Dr. Amarakoon has obtained Masters degrees in Biomedical Informatics from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo and Health Administration from Asia e University. He has also obtained his MD in Health Informatics from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. In addition, he has obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine. Dr. Pamod Amarakoon played an active role in implementing public health information systems and mHealth technologies to enhance the health information flow of Sri Lanka during the time he served in Ministry of Health. At present, Dr. Amarakoon is the Assistant Treasurer of Sri Lanka Medical Association. He is also serving as the Executive Vice President in Health Informatics Society of Sri Lanka (HISSL) and Assistant Treasurer in the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka. Dr. Amarakoon is a globally reputed implementer and a trainer in HMIS platform DHIS2, through which he contributes to global public good spanning across several low and middle income countries.
