Dumindu Madhushan is an attorney-at-law and legal academic. He serves as a lecturer (confirmed) attached to the Department of Private and Comparative Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.
Mr Madhushan completed his Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, in 2015 and his Master of Laws at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka, in 2021. In 2016, he joined the Department of Private and Comparative Law, University of Colombo, as a temporary lecturer. Before he joined the Faculty of Law, he worked as a researcher at the Centre for Policy Alternatives, Sri Lanka, on language rights and the right to information, and as a legal researcher at the Right to Information Commission of Sri Lanka. He was called to the BAR as an Attorney-at-law in January 2017. He completed the Making Teaching Effective (MaTE) course at the Staff Development Centre of the University of Colombo in 2016. Mr Madhushan was head of student affairs at the Legal Aid Unit, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo from 2016 to 2018.
Mr Madhushan was awarded P.A. Weerasinghe Memorial Scholarship on the Results of the G.C.E. A/L Examination 2010 – Art Section and ANADA PRADEEPA Academic Achievements based on the results at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination 2010 – Logic and Scientific Method, Ananda College, Colombo 10 in 2010.
Mr Madhushan is an author of several scholarly articles published nationally and internationally. His research interests include cultural property, legal history, colonial legal studies, land law, property law, the right to information, jurisprudence, legal systems, and the law of interpretation.
He is currently reading for his PhD in Law at the Department of Legal Theory and Legal History, Faculty of Law, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His doctoral studies focus on the entangled legalities of colonial cultural property.
Mr. Madhushan has held several positions in previous years at the Faculty of Law, such as Temporary Student Counsellor, Assistant Coordinator and Course Director of Legal Theory of the LL.M. programme (2 years/by research) of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo; Consultant Researcher and Academic Coordinator of the Advanced Certificate in Human Rights Approach to Prison Administration at the Centre for the Study of Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo; and Research Supervisor of Bachelor of Labour Education, Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo.
