Basic survival needs, autonomy in the family, physical security, economic security, protective housing, appropriate health care, significant primary and social relationships, need to be educate and aware, mutual support of close relatives, formal support, need  of ‘time-out to rest from the strains-respite’, and spiritual need were identified as family needs.

Less attention has been given to family needs in the care of PMHP in Sri Lanka. Identification of family needs supports to develop family support programmes and they support to develop future care of PMHP.
