Dr. Mohamed Rishard graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya in 2005 with a Second Class Upper Division at the final MBBS Exam, securing an island merit of 39 along with Distinctions in Psychiatry and Pharmacology. He began his medical career as a Medical Officer at the National Blood Bank and served as Registrar at both the Colombo North Teaching Hospital and the De Zoysa Maternity Hospital between 2009 and 2012. After completing his MD in 2012, he was appointed Senior Registrar at the Teaching Hospital, Kandy, where he also had the privilege of acting as Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Following his postgraduate training in the United Kingdom as a Specialty Trainee in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG). His qualifications include an Advanced Training Module in Medical Education (RCOG, UK), an Advanced Training Module in Hysteroscopic Surgeries (RCOG, UK), a Postgraduate Certificate Course in Medical Education (University of Dundee), a Bachelor in Endoscopy, and a Diploma in Endoscopy. Since 2015, he has been serving as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist.

Dr. Rishard has been recognized for his contributions to the field. He was awarded the Shan S Ratnam Young Gynaecologist Award in 2013 by the Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOFOG) and received the Bronze Medal at the Geneva Inventions in 2014 for his invention of an Improved Condom Catheter to treat Atonic Postpartum Hemorrhage. He also won the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Award by the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SLCOG) in 2013 for achieving the highest CPD points in 2012, and was honored with the Prof. Arul Kumaran Young Gynaecologist Award by the SLCOG in 2019.

In addition, Dr. Rishard was the UK Alumni Awards winner in the Science and Sustainability category, presented by the British Council in 2023/2024, recognizing his outstanding achievements and impact on communities, industries, and countries. He has also obtained intellectual property rights for his Curved Cervix Holding Forceps, an innovative surgical instrument, from NIPO Sri Lanka.

He is the author of the Handbook of Intrapartum Cardiotocography (2022), a valuable resource for health workers, published by the Colombo Medical Faculty Publishers.

Dr. Rishard is also an RCOG-certified medical educator and has played a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of postgraduate training programs during his tenure at Whittington Hospital, London. His passion for research, innovation, and medical education is matched by his dedication to advancing women’s health. Currently, he serves as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the De Zoysa Maternity Hospital for Women and is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
