Mr. Vaithulla Kamal Ahamed is a Lecturer (Probationary) at the Department of Private and Comparative Law of the Faculty of Law. He was called to the Bar in February 2018, following the completion of an LL.B Degree with Second Class (Hons.) Upper Division from the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo in 2016. Prior to entering academia, he served as a Legal Research Officer (Judicial Clerk) at the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka, where he gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of the country’s legal system.
Before his tenure at the Court of Appeal, Kamal practiced as a private legal practitioner, specializing in civil and criminal law. Driven by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, he undertook further studies, earning a Post Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and World Affairs from the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI), and an Advanced Diploma in Transitional Justice from the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS).
Expanding upon his LL.B foundation, Kamal completed an LL.M in Criminal Justice Administration from the Open University of Sri Lanka. His LL.M thesis delved into the pressing issue of Wrongful Prosecution and Miscarriage of Justice in the Sri Lankan Criminal Justice Administration, proposing a comprehensive statutory framework to address these challenges within the Sri Lankan legal system.
In his teaching capacity, Kamal imparts knowledge across a range of courses including Legal Method and Legal Writing, Evidence and Criminal Procedure, Family Law, and Law of Delict. His research interests intersect with Medical Law, the Law of Delict, and the evolving landscape of Evidence Law. Mr. Kamal particularly skilled at analyzing case law and judicial trends within the Sri Lankan legal system, offering students valuable insights into current legal developments.
